The first Fourth

We didn’t shoot off fireworks today.
We didn’t wear cute, patriotic little outfits.
We didn’t have a “first fourth” photo shoot with oversized red bows on our heads.
We didn’t have cute bathing suits for the babies that would grow out of them by next week.
We didn’t wave American flags or drink out of red, white, and blue cups.
We did, however, play with sparklers in our driveway and wave them around until they ran out of fire.
We did, however, wear cute little pink dresses that were spoiled immediately by yummy new finger foods that we liked to try.
We did, however, catch photographs of random goofy moments, smiles and laughs.
We did, however, play in the kiddie pool in our diapers and splash around until our toes got wrinkley.
We did, however, crawl around the house on all fours (mommy and daddy included) and eat blueberries and cuddle and giggle until it was time for bed.
Happy first Fourth of July, little ones. Life is so untraditional, unexpected, unplanned and overall lovely with you.
